With more than 50,000 hectares of apple orchards, West Azarbaijan province has the first rank in apple production in IRAN, and the city of Urmia is the hub of apple production in this province. It is expected that more than one million and 100 thousand tons of apples will be harvested from the orchards of West Azarbaijan province this year, and the share of Urmia city is more than 300 thousand tons. About 800,000 tons of West Azerbaijan apples are reserved for export and storage in cold stores, and the rest are harvested as fresh and industrial apples. Apple harvest in Urmia usually starts at the beginning of October and continues for a month.
